Imagine being able to enter patient tracking times in the OR with a simple tap of your finger. With Acuitec’s iTracker app, your wishful imaginations become reality.

iTracker is an added functionality to VigiVU, our remote presence monitoring app. The iTracker functionality can be made automatically available to appropriate VigiVU users, based on their user login. The app offers a snapshot view of the patient and the patient’s current stage in the preoperative process. Simply by tapping a button, the patient’s status can be updated with the current state and current time. No worries if you want to change a time or estimate a future time…another finger tap allows for editing.

When the timeout status is reached, iTracker allows for the nurse to step through the pre-procedure timeout checklist on her iPhone. This configurable list enforces and records timeout compliance. The nurse may add free text comments or quick comments from her customized library.

In addition, the nurse has access to all of the features that VigiVU users have grown to love…remote presence monitoring capability, a view of the schedule board, instant access to patient data, and customized electronic notifications. But with iTracker, updating patient status just got a little easier.

Operating room resource planning and management is a complex process critical to achieving efficiency. The unique scheduling requirements of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and administrators must be carefully orchestrated to optimize operating room utilization. In addition, supplies must be allocated intelligently to insure availability and yet minimize excess operating room inventory and waste. To meet these challenges, Acuitec is introducing Vigilant Scheduling, a new dynamic scheduling and preference cards management system.

Maximizing OR utilization while balancing clinical needs begins with effective block management—blocking a room, semi-suite, or suite for a surgeon or a service. Vigilant Scheduling supports block priority levels, release management, and block types such as administrative, procedure, clinical, etc. In addition, automatic block release can be configured; i.e., first within a service, and then to all. The surgeon’s office may then either schedule directly via a web form or submit an electronic request to schedule a procedure into their designated block, subsequently reviewed by the scheduling officer on duty. Accurate case duration estimates are statistically computed from CPT standards and/or surgeon history.

When a case is scheduled, Vigilant Scheduling automatically assigns preference cards to the case and resolves conflicts. The scheduling system also allows for either manual or automatic generation of perioperative physician orders. Preference cards are maintained by reconciling actual usage statistics with preference card demands and suggesting appropriate adjustments.

Vigilant Scheduling synchronizes OR scheduling and supply management, offering the perfect solution for both maximizing OR utilization and minimizing waste. Vigilant Scheduling ensures the availability of the right supplies in the right quantities at the right time for the right case.

Visit our website for more details.

Acuitec introduces patient self-entry web-form

Studies have shown that pre-populated patient history forms that eliminate repetitive data entry increase both the efficiency and accuracy of pre-operative data capture. When patients simply verify their medical history instead of repeatedly completing exhaustive forms, the patients are more likely to provide additional relevant details. Also, maintaining a single, centralized database of patient information eliminates conflicting data entry.

At Acuitec, we are releasing a new feature to further the ease and efficiency of pre-operative data capture: a self-entry web-form. The patient may complete the web-form in the surgeon’s office prior to scheduling the case; or, alternatively, it may be incorporated into a case event when the case is scheduled. Patients can conveniently enter surgical history, current medications, any known allergies, and a summary of his or her current medical condition.

If permission is granted to complete the web-form in the surgeon’s office, the patient may fill out the pre-admission form on an iPad or a web-enabled desktop. If, however, the form has not been completed in the surgeon’s office, the case may be flagged to generate the web-form at the time of scheduling the case. In this scenario, the patient is sent an email that provides secure access to the web-form. The patient then has a 48-hour window to provide pre-admission data at his or her convenience.

The patient self-entry data is incorporated into the Acuitec database, contributing to comprehensive patient medical information available prior to the day-of–surgery. Thus, admission procedures are efficient and consistent; eliminating costly cancellations, delays, and unnecessary testing. Most importantly, however, automated assessment of patient risk and effective preadmission management increases both patient safety and satisfaction.

It’s the perfect match. The iPad has a high-resolution color display, the largest-multi-touch screen Apple has ever put in a product, and a sleek, simple design. Acuitec mobile applications feature high-quality video streams, multi-views of patient information, and an intuitive user interface. United, they provide an unprecedented experience of enhancing perioperative care that just feels right in your hands.

Vigilance, Acuitec’s mobile app for remote presence monitoring and clinician decision support, has already received significant attention and recognition in the medical community and media. Vigilance was showcased by Intel Chairman Craig Barrett in the CES 2009 Keynote address. In August 2010, Vigilance was also the featured product in an article launching MacHealthcare, an online community of health science educators. Previously available on the iPhone, iTouch, and Microsoft devices such as the OCO and VilliV, Vigilance is now better than ever on the iPad.

The large display of the iPad makes Vigilance orders of magnitude more powerful than before. The large, crisp LCD screen of the iPad is ideal for displaying the live video stream from the operating room. The most advanced multi-touch technology available allows clinicians to navigate patient information and vital sign data with accuracy and ease.

In addition, Acuitec is developing other apps to match the capability of the iPad. This month, we are releasing PostRounds, an app that makes electronic post-operative rounds of anesthesiologists seamlessly mobile. Instead of carrying an out-dated paper tablet or logging in and out of a cumbersome desktop workstation, anesthesiologists can carry the slim iPad and effortlessly complete the patient’s Electronic Health Record. The light, simple iPad tablet just feels natural, and up to 10 hours of battery life make post-op documentation as mobile as you are all day. And, starting at just $499, the iPad fits into any hospital budget.

The iPad is no ordinary product. Acuitec offers no ordinary solution. Together, they enable truly extraordinary mobile applications.
